50+ PHOTOS: What you need to know from Payne Cup R2

FORMLINES are becoming relevant and the contenders are slowly separating themselves from the pretenders.

Round 2 of the Aaron Payne Cup promised and produced some top-tier schoolboys rugby league this week - and here is your bite-sized recap of all the action.

The Cathedral College v Ignatius Park College

The Cathedral College stamped their mark on the competition with a stunning 26-8 upset win over perennial Payne Cup contenders Ignatius Park College.

TCC overcame an early 8-0 deficit, to pile on 26 unanswered points. The Rockhampton school's mobile forward back again proved their greatest asset.

Mackay State High School v St Brendan's College

After their 46-4 loss to Kirwan the week before, Mackay's task didn't appear any easier up against the 2019 runners-up. But the hosts shocked their more fancied rivals to lead 12-4 at halftime, courtesy of tries to co-captains Henri Stocks and Damon Watson.

St Brendan's College responded after the break. Two tries in six second-half minutes drew the visitors level, but Mackay managed to stand tall in defence at the death and hold on for a gritty draw.

Mackay State High School 12 (H. Stocks, D. Watson tries; H. Stocks 2 goals) drew St Brendan's College 12 (T. Barron 2, J. Baigrie tries) at Mackay Junior Rugby League Grounds

St Patrick's College v Kirwan State High School

Kirwan completed the Mackay double with another dominant Payne Cup display. Last week it was Kirwan's forwards who dominated the contest but this time it was their speedsters who did the damage. Both wingers, the fullback and left-centre crossed for tries. For St Pat's it was a second-consecutive week without managing to score - much to coach Chad Buckby's chagrin.

Kirwan State High School 26 (R. Wavik 2, D. Dotoi, J. Yallop, C. George, T. Woods tries; H. Taylor goal) defeated St Patrick's College 0 at Leprechaun Park, Mackay
