700 items under hammer at one of state's biggest auctions

  • Tomkins Auction at 207-217 Wade St, Parkhurst.
  • 10am start, Saturday, February 6.
  • A variety of items up for auction include vehicle, machine parts, furniture etc.

GOING once, going twice, sold.

Rockhampton's Chris Tomkins has been saying those words the first Saturday of every month for the past 28 years.

This Saturday will be no different, with the local auctioneer and director of Tomkins Auctioneers set to auction off around 700 items this weekend at the Parkhurst site.

Chris said a number of items would be going under the hammer from 10am on Saturday.

"For the last ten years we've been specialising in vehicle and machinery sales," he said.

"We've got a number of motor vehicles from a number of companies including private vendors and local council and government departments to name a few. There'll be about 70 vendors in this weekend's auction.

"It's one of the largest attended auctions in the state with over 1000 people normally attending, so it's quite a big event. We normally have 99.9% clearance rate which I think is why we have so many people attend, as it's rare that we pass an asset in.

"Last year we moved into larger premises due to the demand and now we offer about 1600 sq m site with a large warehouse on site."

Chris said he always looked forward to going to work on the first Saturday of every month but couldn't have done it without the support of the participating businesses.

"We appreciate the support that we've had over the past few years," he said. "Especially from our local council and other participating companies, we can't do it without them and we look forward to continuing on our work."
