Big Top Shopping Centre evacuated

UPDATE: 2.45PM: An evacuation at the Big Top Shopping Centre at Maroochydore was due to an automated alarm.

Staff and shoppers were evacuated from the centre about 2pm on Tuesday.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said one crew was called but left by 2.15pm after confirming it was a false alarm.

EARLIER: Staff and members of public have been evacuated from the Big Top Shopping Centre at Maroochydore this afternoon however emergency services crews are standing down.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the first crew arrived about 2pm after an automated alarm went off.

One crew remained on scene at the busy shopping centre, after a second responding crew was stood down.

She said there had been no sign of smoke or fire but the crew was completing further investigations.
