Bluebirds streak ends in grand final glory

THE beautiful game was the real winner at Webber Park as Bluebirds claimed a tight 2-1 over Berserker at the CEC Babbage under-12s carnival.

A day before Portugal shocked the world at the Euros, nine teams from Rockhampton, Yeppoon and Biloela lined up for 39 games over two days showcasing their full array of fantastic football skills.

Bluebirds Mooy tasted defeat in their first game to Callide Black, but went on a run of nine games undefeated to be crowned the champions for 2016.

Sayder Paiva from Bluebirds amassed a huge tally of 27 goals over the tournament to claim the golden boot while Max Purser won the player of the carnival award.

Bluebirds kept it a clean sweep of the awards with Declan Hegarty winning the player of the final and Ervin Thorpe the goal-keeper of the tournament.

Bluebirds coach Paul Ribinsky praised the performance of all his future Aaron Mooys.

In the semi finals, the Bluebirds Mooy team defeated Bluebirds Rogic and Berserker defeated Callide Black.

The Gracemere against Cap Coast game was a great contest, as was the game between Gracemere and Southside. Coaches and managers from the nine teams were impressed with the quality of football across all teams. The Bluebirds development manager William Gemmell said the carnival was one of the highlights for 2016.

He said the result showed the club's focus on football development for coaches and players was definitely working. The club will again be running their annual academy later in the year.
