Police car hits suspect after he evades questioning
UPDATE 4PM: Police are investigating a traffic crash in North Rockhampton involving a police vehicle and a male pedestrian this morning.
It was alleged police were attempting to speak to a man along Alexandra St in Park Avenue just before 10am regarding property related matters, when he ran from police.
Preliminary information suggests the man ran onto the roadway and into the path of an unmarked police vehicle.
It is further alleged the man then struggled violently with police on the ground, during which time a taser was deployed and the man taken into custody.
A 38-year-old West Rockhampton man sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital.
He was issued with a Notice to Appear for assault of a police officer and is expected to face the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on July 6.
An investigation conducted by the Ethical Standards Command has commenced. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact police.
An incident between a car and a pedestrian is currently unfolding on Alexandra St in North Rockhampton near Tropical Ford.
A reporter on the scene reported multiple police crews had blocked the road between the Highway and Main St.
A silver sedan is visible on a side road with its windscreen smashed in and its indicator on.
Police had little detail at this stage, but a spokesman confirmed it was an incident between a vehicle and pedestrian.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said crews took a man in his 30s to Rockhampton hospital in a stable condition.
He was complaining of shoulder pains.
