UPDATE Saturday 4.41PM: GLADSTONE Police Inspector Darren Somerville addressed media this afternoon after escaped Rockhampton prisoner Lui 'Dylan' Tiaaleaiga was arrested following a police pursuit.
Tiaaleaiga was taken into custody after crashing into three vehicles on the corner of Dawson Highway and Aerodrome Road after spending a week on the run from police.
A state-wide manhunt was underway after Tiaaleaiga escaped police custody while in Rockhampton Hospital last Saturday.
He was spotted this morning driving an allegedly stolen car in Rockhampton, where police initially tried to stop him but he was able to evade police.
The same car was seen again on the Bruce Highway and was able to evade police before being caught in Gladstone.
Inspector Somerville said Gladstone police became aware of the fact that Tiaaleaiga was in the Gladstone area at around 10.30am.
Police attempted to intercept the offender using several measures, including stingers, which were unsuccessful.
Inspector Somerville said the pursuit continued for about half an hour before the offender collided with a number of vehicles and came to a stop.
"There were three vehicles hit at the conclusion of the pursuit, and there were two prior to that," he said.
Inspector Somerville said from the three cars at the final collision, there were six people involved, including two children.
"The family received minor injuries and were treated by QAS however didn't require any hospitalisation," he said.
"We are very happy that nobody was seriously injured in the incident … and that the offender is back in custody."
Inspector Somerville said upon the collision with the other vehicles, Tiaaleaiga allegedly attempted to "get into another vehicle and continue in his escape."
"The offender was tasered once arrested, so he didn't surrender of his own free will."
The offender has suffered some minor injuries and is currently in hospital being assessed.
Inspector Somerville said it is good to have Tiaaleaiga back in custody and further investigations will determine what offences have occurred since his escape.
Tiaaleaiga is expected to appear in court at a later date.
