Cache of weapons, cars stolen during wild crime spree

A GROUP of men allegedly stole a cache of weapons, two cars and a quantity of alcohol during a wild crime spree in Palmerston this morning.

Another incident saw a delivery driver violently bashed and robbed of his pizza.

NT Police watch commander Len Turner told the NT News that just before midnight, thieves broke into Top End Diesel in Yarrawonga and stole a white Toyota LandCruiser and a black Mazda 3 sedan, before embarking on its crime spree.

The youth involved in this spree have been arrested.

"Police received several reports of the two stolen motor vehicles driving around Palmerston, dangerously and erratically," he said.

"It was then reported that the LandCruiser was used in a ram-raid at Tackle World in Coolalinga."

It is alleged the group then stole a large quantity of crossbows, machetes and knives, before moving on to their next target.

"The vehicles then left and hit a Palmerston Tavern bottle shop, where the drive-through is," Cdr Turner said.

"The Mazda sedan was used to ram-raid the roller doors, causing extensive damage, and the vehicle became stuck between the bollards and the door."

The incapacitated vehicle did little to slow the group's spree, however.

The offenders then allegedly stole a quantity of alcohol before piling into the LandCruiser and fleeing again before they were spotted by police.

A witness said the youths ran back and forth from the bottle shop with arms full of booze.

"The kids (were) running back and forth with faces covered grabbing arm fulls of alcohol," the witness said.

"When they left they chased another witness down Roystonea and didn't stop until the police found them and started the pursuit."

Tyre spikes were used to bring the car to a stop after a police pursuit.

"After three tyres deflated, the vehicle was apprehended on Chung Wah Tce. Four offenders fled on foot, and one was arrested," Cdr Turner said.

"We think we've recovered all the crossbows, knives and alcohol, and one 22-year-old man remains in custody."

Detectives from Strike Force Trident and general duties cops found two 18-year-old men and a13-year-old male was also located.

Meanwhile, in Gray at around 9.30pm, a pizza delivery man arrived at a residence to be met by two caucasian males, who allegedly bashed the man with a wooden post for his pizza.

"The pizza driver was struck with a wooden pole or stake. He was hit on the head and body," Cdr Turner said.

"The males then stole the pizza and ran off into a nearby park. This offence is a serious aggravated robbery."

Police are continuing to investigate both incidents.
