Council hopes works progress to western side of Dean St soon

ALMOST one month in, Rockhampton Regional Council is on track with the $1 million intersection upgrade for Dean and High Streets.

Infrastructure Committee chair councillor Tony Williams said he was pleased with the progression being made by council staff and the community's response.

"We have received a lot of positive feedback from nearby businesses and residents regarding the way in which we are undertaking the project," Cr Williams said.

"Despite the use of detours in some instances, we would like to ensure the community is aware that nearby businesses are operating as usual.

"Crews will continue their endeavour to reduce traffic delays wherever possible,  however minor traffic delays will occur from time to time,' he said.

Work to date on the eastern side of Dean Street (between Trimendous Hair and Beauty and Baby Locker) includes:

- Rebuilding of the kerb,
- Installation of stormwater drainage, and
- Installation of underground traffic signals equipment.

Cr Williams said council will soon move to the western side of Dean Street (between a vacant lot and the Bottle Shop) to undertake similar preparations.

"Preliminary work on the eastern side of Dean Street will reach completion by the end of March, weather permitting," Cr Williams said.

On-site staff will be able to assist with alternative access arrangements on a day to day basis.

Subject to weather, works are due to reach completion by mid July 2014.
