Accusations of hooning escalate into violent attack

ACCUSATIONS of hooning on Thursday night escalated into a violent incident, with two people driving themselves to hospital after allegedly being attacked and threatened with a knife and glass bottles.

At 9.49pm police were called to an Arthur St address in Depot Hill where a 22-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man had allegedly been assaulted.

The alleged attack occurred when the two victims drove to the house to drop off their friend, and four people emerged to confront them.

A police media spokesman said the male victim was accused of doing burnouts in the street earlier that day.

The spokesman also said one person was allegedly holding a knife while another two were holding glass bottles.

A glass bottle was allegedly thrown and hit the man, who fell to the ground and was punched and kicked.

When the woman tried to help, she received a cut above her left elbow, the police spokesman said.

A witness came and broke up the row and the victims then drove themselves to hospital.

A 23-year-old man was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm while armed and was in the watchhouse waiting to appear in court.

A 21-year-old male is also yet to be charged.

Officers from Rockhampton CIB are still investigating.
