Little JJ a sweet note to Asiatas
COWBOYS' forward John Asiata is going to have a special Father's Day thanks to the arrival this week of newborn son John Junior, nicknamed JJ.
Asiata and wife Shailah welcomed their second child on Monday, just one day before daughter Eleana's first birthday.
"She doesn't ever have to buy me a Father's Day gift, just point to the kids," he said.
"I had my little angel that first Father's Day and this year my little boy is like my gift."
"Both of them bring me such joy."
Asiata said the choice of the name for the newborn was an easy decision.
"John's actually my middle name; my first name is Atalani," he said. "Everyone calls me John except for my parents and that was the only name that sort of felt right to us, so it's nice to share that down the line with my first son."
When Eleana was born, Asiata sang to her and he shared the same special moment with JJ, even singing the same song, Hillsong Worship's What a Beautiful Name.
"It just calms them down," he said. "Music is going to be a big part of their lives."
But even when not being soothed by his dad's singing, young JJ is still a calm baby.
"Both of them were pretty calm when they were born," Asiata said.
"Shailah and me are pretty calm, pretty relaxed people and I think that shows in our little ones."
Mrs Asiata said while Eleana didn't seem that interested in her new baby brother yet, she hoped they would grow up close.
"I'm looking forward to see their bond as they grow up," she said.
"We've always been excited that they'll be close in age."
The timing should also ensure Asiata family birthdays are easy to remember, with the children's birthdays one day apart in August, while the couple's birthdays are also one day apart in April.
Meanwhile Cowboys retiring captain Johnathan Thurston's news that their family will welcome a fourth baby in February has prompted an outpouring of congratulations online.
Footy Show's Erin Molan commented to Samantha Thurston that she thought JT was glowing, to which Mrs Thurston replied "haha … he's glowing; I'm having an anxiety attack."
