Clean up of waterways after Marcia stopped flash flooding

WHILE the region has experienced a downpour, Rocky has been lucky enough to escape flash flooding.

With Rockhampton receiving falls of more than 100mm, Cr Neil Fisher said the clean- up after Marcia was to thank for waterways flowing smoothly. "Boy, haven't we been lucky... we've had rain but nothing near the downpour they've had up north," he said.

Cr Fisher said he spent yesterday in the rain, assessing how the town was coping with the heavy rain.

"We're looking at a lot of the work and clean up after Marcia, some of those things we did during the clean up have reduced the issues."

The Rockhampton councillor said during the last downpour like this he received complaints about the overflowing water ways but this time around it was mostly complaint free.

"Water has flowed away nice and quick. Storm drains have been cleared and I'm fairly happy with what I've seen so far. We've been spared the worst."
