Drivers 'heckled' rather than helped stranded elderly couple

A WITNESS to an incident following a crash on Friday expressed his disappointment in drivers when no one stopped to help an elderly couple who were stranded in a broken down van.

The couple were stranded near the Yeppen Bridge south of Rockhampton when a two vehicle crash backed up traffic on the Bruce and Capricorn Hwys at 11:30am.

Driver Matt Black said on The Bulletin's Facebook page it was "pathetic" to see everyone driving by the aged couple and heckling them rather than helping.

"We could have moved them out of the lane if even one other person had stopped to help me push them off the road, but people were too busy shouting abuse and making stupid comments," he said.

The crash on the bridge was minor.
