Elder swimmer nabs first medal at Queensland championships

ROCKY City Swim star elder statesman Matt White claimed the club's first medal on the opening night of the 2013 Queensland championships on Monday night.

Qualifying eighth for the final of the men's 200m breast stroke, White, 24, collected a bronze medal after touching the wall in a time of 2:19.30 behind Buster Sykes (2:14.50) and Nikolas Pregelj (2:18.49).

Teen sensation Alanna Bowles won gold in the girls 16 year girls 400m freestyle and medley finals, while her Rocky City Swim teammate, Karleigh Banks, claimed top honours in the 16 year girls 200m butterfly final.

Banks upstaged Bowles in the final, shaving 3.23 seconds off her personal best time to win gold, and hand Rocky City Swim Club a one, two finish.
