Ex-Rocky schoolgirl makes model material

RIAZ Vickers never thought about a career in the modelling world.

But when the former Cathedral College student was scouted by a modelling agency, she thought she'd give it a go.

And go she has, with her career taking her across Australia and overseas.

It is a far cry from what she had planned when she finished school.

"I finished school in Darwin last year and had always thought about a career in the defence force, police force or the navy," she said.

"Early last year, my friend and I were scouted by a manager for Pride Models."

Scouted from their photos on social media, the pair attended a trial in Melbourne in June then were asked to come back after they had finished school.

"After school my friend and I moved to Melbourne where I've been living for the past eight months and working with Pride Models.

"I really love modelling and it's something I could do for a long time but the defence force will always be in my mind for later in life."

Riaz has spent the past three months in Hong Kong modelling for magazines, catalogues and campaigns.

"Modelling in Hong Kong was amazing and I really hope I can work in many more amazing countries throughout my career," she said.

"When I was in Hong Kong I would do around three to eight castings a day so it was very busy but I loved every minute of it and also loved the glamorous side to the industry.

"I was invited to the Ports menswear launch which starred Big Sean and I was also invited to the Calvin Klein Jeans event which starred Justin Beiber so that was definitely one of the highlights of the trip.

"I haven't been modelling for long so I'm still learning and building my confidence but hopefully one day I'll be walking in big shows like Myer, David Jones and fashion week catwalks."
