Facebook post on croc sighting turns out to be a croc

WHAT a croc.

A Facebook post stating two crocs had been sighted at Farnborough Beach over the weekend has recently circled local social media sites, sending locals into a frenzy.

It turns out however, the sighting was a croc as the Facebook post wasn't talking about the scaly animals; it was talking about a pair of casual shoes.

According to the Facebook user who posted "two crocs sighted at Farnborough beach sunbaking today" on the Rockhampton Classifieds Facebook page on Sunday morning, she had posted a photo of her partner's "Crocs" shoes in the post's comments which was not visible in the general news feed.

But just because this sighting didn't turn out to be true doesn't mean the Capricorn Coast hasn't had a sighting before.

According to a Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP) spokesperson, the EHP received a report of an estuarine crocodile swimming in the ocean at Bangalee, Farnborough Beach, on October 27.

The crocodile was described as being up to 4.5m in length.

Environment and Heritage Protection wildlife officers immediately assessed the report and erected recent crocodile sighting signs at the site but has received no further reports of the animal being seen in the area.

If you spot a crocodile, report the sighting to EHP on 1300 130 372.
