Finding healing in a Christian Science Reading Room

There'll be a free public talk in the Christian Science Reading Room next Sunday 19 May at 2.00pm titled ‘Finding God, Finding Health’ by Michelle Nanouche, international speaker, practitioner and teacher of Christian Science healing.

On weekdays, the Christian Science Reading Room is part bookstore and part library. Its purpose is to make available to the public resources that nurture spiritual discovery and healing.

I found it did just that when I was struggling at one time in my life. A lack of direction and isolation from family and friends led me to spend time in a Reading Room quite often. Disappointed by the sometimes-insensitive religiosity, disheartened agnosticism and often unconvincing positive thinking prevalent in the community, I was on a quest to find something truly fulfilling.

I can say that each time I visited, the loneliness and dark cloud of purposelessness lessened. The spiritual resources brought me comfort and clarity on how to think about my life in a totally new way. I learned that true happiness and spiritual growth spring from simply getting to know God better, as ever-present Life, Truth and Love, and recognising man as His spiritual image and likeness. I also discovered that health problems grew less and were even healed in the light of this new understanding.

There are online as well as print materials available now. When you first go in, you'll probably see a selection of Bibles and Bible resource books, as well as the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, available for purchase. A librarian will be there to greet you, answer any questions you may have, and invite you to browse. You will also find the Pulitzer-prize-winning newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor; magazines that include authenticated testimonies of healing through prayer alone; and a variety of biographies on Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science.

One of the most unique facets of a Reading Room is that you can simply come in to study, read and pray. It’s a resource for anyone on a quest for spiritual understanding, as I was, and open to people of all faiths, backgrounds, and ways of life.

Stop by the Christian Science Reading Room next Sunday for the public talk, on Sunday mornings and any weekday. You can find it on the Duporth Avenue side of Ocean Central arcade, Maroochydore, Monday – Friday 10am to 2pm (except public holidays). Phone 5443 9939, mobile 0400 49 44 06 or email
