30 reasons why Rockhampton is better than Gladstone

GLADSTONE has compiled a list of 50 reasons why it is better than Rockhampton.

The Bulletin staff and readers have compiled a list of 30 reasons so far why Rockhampton is better than Gladstone.

1. Our road infrastructure makes sense; for every destination there's more than one way to get there.
2. Our shopping options are tenfold better than Gladstone's. We have Stocklands, the biggest shopping centre north of the Sunshine Coast.
3. We're a stone's throw from dozens of fantastic beaches
4. Our city is framed by beautiful bushland and farm land, not ugly industrial sites
5. We're on the Bruce Highway, so we're a haven for travelers.
6. Our dining options our much more varied than Gladstone's, and we have unique options such as Cafe Bliss, Blue Truffle and the Regent.
7. Rockhampton Food Rater has more members than Gladstone Food Rater
8. We don't use American terminology like, "prom" for formal or "mall" for shopping centre
9. You don't need to take out a home loan to take a flight out of Rocky
10. Our night life is much better and provides more option
11. Mount Archer lookout provides fantastic views
12. Mount Archer has some fantastic bush walking tracks
13. The Walter Reid Culture Centre offers a wide range of art, craft and culture experiences from plays to music nights, art sessions, photography club, pottery, etc
14. We have an art shop and it has a professional framer in the shop
15. There's a much better ratio of men to women in Rocky.
16. Rent and house prices don't go through the roof every time a new industrial site is built

Journalist Ebony Battersby found there is a lot of friendly inter-city rivalry still in play.

Here are some of their responses:

1. Gladstone is not littered with ugly bulls.

2. We don't have an equivalent to the Fitzroy River. Instead, the delightful Auckland Creek is a perfect spot for a Sunday session (and it doesn't flood).

3. There are lookouts all over Gladstone.

4. Tannum Sands beach is better than Yeppoon, and nearer.

5. We have a Ribs N Rumps.

6. You choose: GECC or Pilbeam Theatre?

7. Lake Awoonga.

8. Gladstone is on the coast, so island hopping is more accessible.

9. Heron Island is better than Great Keppel Island (and it's functional).

10. Superb fishing in Gladstone and surrounding offshore locations.
