Harry Mimi takes his hat off to Rockhampton

HARRY Mimi has expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support from the Central Queensland community.

Yesterday the Vietnam Veteran told The Morning Bulletin he was suffering from cancer and had a short time left to live.

As a result, hundreds of people left heartwarming comments on the colourful character's story.

Harry said he was left humbled by the sheer number of people who wished him well.

"I would like to say thanks to everyone who has acknowledged it and sees that I  wasn't a bad bloke after all, just a short, dark and handsome bloke," he said.
