KNOCKED OUT: No chance of Olympic medals for Rocky boys

THE Olympic campaign of the Kookaburras is over, with the team beaten by the Netherlands in the quarter finals in Rio this morning.

The medal hopes of Rockhampton's champion trio Mark Knowles, Jamie Dwyer and Matt Gohdes were dashed in the 4-nil loss to the world's number two ranked team.

The Netherlands scored in the opening minute of the game, and slammed home three more goals in the 28th, 33rd and 49th minute to claim the victory and move through to the medal round.

It was a devastating blow for the Kookaburras who went into Rio as the gold medal favourites. The team has managed to medal at the past six Olympic Games.

The loss also marks the end of the representative career of Dwyer, a five-time world player of the year who was competing in his fourth Olympics.
