Blindsided Molan denies backstabbing Fatty

ERIN Molan has denied that she's been lined up to replace Paul "Fatty" Vautin after he was dumped from the NRL Footy Show in a dramatic shake-up.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Molan, 35, will replace Vautin, 58, as the show's host as it tries to win back female viewers who have switched to Fox Sports.

But Molan says she has not been informed about the program's shake-up.

"For starters this is all news to me," she told The Fix.

"I haven't been told anything about what the show will be doing next year, what direction it will be taking or what the role will be.

"I understand there will be changes, but regarding who will be there or who won't be there, I honestly have absolutely no idea at this stage. I have not been told."

Darryl "Big Marn" Brohman, who has also been dumped from the 2018 panel, said Fatty was shattered by the news.

"I know he's disappointed. I've seen the texts; he's sent me a couple of texts," he told Macquarie Radio.

He said The Footy Show wouldn't be The Footy Show without Fatty.

"Fatty won't be there, I won't be there … I think Erin will possibly host it. She's very good at what she does," he said.

"Personally I don't see that if Fatty's gone that they can call it The Footy Show. I think he has been The Footy Show. It's been 24 years that he has hosted it."

The rugby league-focused variety show dipped to all-time-low ratings of 80,000 viewers this year in its 10pm Thursday timeslot.

Brohman suggested the late telecast, following the Thursday night match, was a turn-off.

"That was probably the beginning of the end of The Footy Show. The fact Thursday night footy started … the show wasn't going on until just before 10pm. It's very late," he said.

Despite the low ratings, The Footy Show was a hit with Logie voters, winning 11 statues since its debut in 1993.

Next year's Thursday night show is likely to be a trimmed down affair without a live audience or musical entertainment, according to TV Tonight. A Monday night Footy Show will also be added to the Channel 9 schedule, along with the regular Sunday broadcast, the Telegraph reports.

Fatty will stay with the network in a commentary role.

The dumping of Fatty comes a day after Lisa Wilkinson departed the network for Channel 10.
