UPDATE THURSDAY 5.30PM: NEIGHBOURS of the man found dead in a Depot Hill home on Tuesday night still can't believe what's unfolded in their street.

Those who spoke briefly to The Morning Bulletin said the 56-year-old man said he kept to himself.

The man was found in a room he was renting in the Campbell St home about 9pm on Tuesday.

Acting Inspector Luke Peachey said a member of the family who occupied the main part of the house found the man with serious injuries.

The crime scene tape was still in place Thursday morning.

One neighbour said the street was full of dogs, but there had been no noise on Tuesday night until emergency services were called.

Act Insp Peachey said an autopsy would be conducted Friday in Brisbane.

UPDATE 10.30AM: POLICE have identified the man found dead at a Depot Hill house overnight.

Acting Inspector Luke Peachey said the 56-year-old man's family had been notified.

The man was renting a room from a family at the Campbell St home in south Rockhampton.

Act Insp Peachey said a member of the family found the man with serious injuries about 9pm last night, but a time of death has not been established.

He said police were talking to neighbours today.

An autopsy will be carried out and the man's name is expected to be released by police as they investigate his death.

A close neighbour said she didn't hear anything overnight.

The first she knew of an incident was after police arrived.

"This is a real shock she said," as she stood at her screen door this morning.

"This is such a quiet area. It's really odd."

She said the family in the house had been there about three to four years. Act Insp Peachey said the man had lived at the address for about a year.
