Questions to flow at Rockhampton flood levee information day

MARGARET Strelow says residents will get the answers to their questions at today's flood levee open day at Littler-Cum-Ingham Park.

The Rockhampton mayor said it was important that people were given the opportunity to make an informed decision on the proposed South Rockhampton Flood Levee.

The open day runs from 10am to 2pm.

People will have the chance to meet the team of specialists working on the project, see samples and scale models of levees and talk to insurance company representatives about the likely impacts on insurance premiums.

Information stations will provide details on hydraulics, economic and social benefits and what's planned for North Rockhampton.

Cr Strelow said the decision on the levee had the potential to change Rockhampton's future.

"I urge the community to weigh carefully this proposal," she said on Thursday, as she revealed the final alignment of the levee.

"I believe that this is a generational opportunity, that this is a future building opportunity and this decision is for our children's tomorrow."

Future public consultation will include workshops, shopping centre booths and online surveys.
