Rebel without cause flouts Rockhampton CBD drink ban

LEO Russell Rebel was banned from the Rockhampton central business district, but he managed to make his way back there.

The 57-year-old was given a police ban notice from the Safe Night Precinct due to intoxication in public.

He was given the notice on October 23 and it was set to expire on November 1.

But on October 28 the pensioner was caught at Ray Wilson Park drinking liquor with friends.

The Rockhampton Magistrates Court heard on Wednesday that he was there because he wanted to drink and be with his friends.

The police prosector told the court that he was given the opportunity to leave the area but wanted to stay.

Magistrate Michael O'Driscoll fined him $300.
