Region remembers veteran killed in crash before Anzac Day

Stan Werner, 96, died after a fatal accident on Rockhampton-Yeppoon Rd last Wednesday morning while on his way to a group meeting organised by Omega Seniors.

In the days before the accident Stan was preparing to practice his speech about Anzac Day that he was going to present at his church service this Wednesday.

Stan fought in WWII where he served five years on the frontline as a sergeant, making him one of Central Queensland's oldest soldiers. Read more here: One of CQ's oldest veterans killed in crash before Anzac Day

Sokratis Kondilis - RiP Stan Werner.. I will miss the deep and funny stories we shared at Jamaica Blue about those colourful greek characters around Yeppoon and Rockhampton.

Graham Creagh - Such a tragedy. Two elderly people in their twilight years losing their lives this way. So very sad.

Rob Spark - What a tragedy. Passing through natural causes at that age is understable yet hard to accept, but to have survived the way he/they would have through the war years and to have their lives cut short a day before one that would have been so significant.....sorry it is just so sad. Sincere best to his family and friends.

Shane Nichols - Rip digger and thk you for your services
