Region's leading golfers look to fire on Emu Park fairways

GOLF: Capricorn Resort's Dylan Parish will be out to defend his title at this weekend's Emu Park Men's Open.

The 120-strong field will tee off in the 36-hole event, played on Saturday and Sunday.

About 50 women will hit the course for the 18-hole ladies championships on Friday.

Peggy Bala-Daniels will be looking to reproduce the form that won her the women's title last year but can expect some stiff competition from Loretta Donaldson and Nadine Battilana.

In the men's field, local teen Ben Swaffield is expected to be in the mix with Parish.

Emu Park Golf Club greens chairman Bruce Slattery said organisers were pleased with nominations in both events.

"The greens are good, the fairways are great and there's a chance the course record of 67 for 18 holes, held by Dylan Parish, could well be threatened this weekend,” he said.

"We're really happy with the entries and we look like having a good crowd so everything is shaping up well for three great days of competition.”
