Our dirty secret - Aussie men wear their undies twice
SUNSHINE Coasters have been both shocked and amused at new research that uncovers the shameful and dirty underwear secrets of Australian men.
The research by underwear company jac5 has "proved" that 67% of men - or two out of every three - would wear the same pair of undies twice without washing them.
The survey of 300 Aussie blokes also found that 35% have "gone commando" because they had run out of clean undies, while 17% had admitted to turning their undies inside-out so they could wear them again.
The revelations drew groans and cringes from the women in The Daily newsroom, but interviews with a handful of Sunshine Coast men indicated better habits here than those of the survey participants - or maybe we're more loose with the truth.
"I shower morning and nightly and I change my knickers every morning," said one Maroochydore man, who declined to be named.
"I've got two drawers full, so it's pretty hard to run out."
The research also found about 33% of men still wore undies that were more than five years old, 5% never threw them out, and 10% relied on their partners to bin them secretly.
About a quarter of the survey respondents only ditched them when worn out with rips and holes.
Jim Christopher, founder of the jac5 brand, is campaigning to have all men dressed well - undies included.
"All across the country there are fashionable, well-dressed guys who take pride in their appearance, yet, as our research shows, let themselves down when it comes to their underwear.
"Great underwear makes you feel confident, sexy and proud, whether anyone is lucky enough to see it or not."
Interestingly, half of Australian men admitted to having a lucky pair of underwear, with 23% claiming they always worked and 60% saying they sometimes worked.
The most popular underwear choices emerged as trunks (49%), followed by briefs (34%) and boxers (12%).
