St Brendan’s hungry for win on home turf

ST Brendan’s coach Scott Minto will be looking for a 60-minute performance from his team in their must-win game against St Patrick’s College Mackay.

The Yeppoon outfit is hungry for a win and is confident it will come in front of their home crowd today in Round 3 of the Aaron Payne Cup.

The teams go head to head at 3.15pm at St Brendan’s. The game will be livestreamed on The Morning Bulletin website, as will the Cowboys Challenge clash between the same two schools at 2pm.

5 TO WATCH: St Brendan’s key Cup players

St Brendan’s have had a loss and a draw in their opening two games. They know a win today is vital if they are to reach the pointy end of the premier schoolboys rugby league competition.

“We’re feeling good about the game,” Minto said.

“We’ve dialled it right back this week and just simplified things.

“We’ve trained really well so we’re positive about what we’re going to do on the field today.”

Minto said his team had been at “maybe 80 per cent at best” in their first two games but they really needed to stand up now.

They have a tough back end to the draw, up against competition frontrunners Kirwan High School and The Cathedral College who face off in Mackay today.

St Pat’s are also looking to keep their finals hopes alive after registering two losses in their opening games.

Minto said St Brendan’s would need to negate the visitors’ powerful forward pack in what promised to be a tough contest.

He would be looking for big performances from hooker Izaac Jackson, halves Harry Gray and Peyton Jenkins and young fullback Blayden Dodd.

In today’s other games, TCC play Kirwan in Mackay and Ignatius Park host Mackay State High.
